Lies of P is a soulslike and a grim adaptation of Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio. It was developed by Round8 Studio (creators of Bless Unleashed) and published by Neowiz.
Lies of P is set in the dark city of Krat. This once beautiful metropolis reminiscent of Western European cities of the Belle Époque period (particularly Paris) is now empty of life, filled with beasts and monsters. The game's protagonist is Pinocchio, an animated mechanical puppet. He wakes up in an abandoned train station, his only clue on what to do next being a piece of paper in front of him. It says he must search for Mr. Geppetto, who's currently somewhere in the city. With no other options, Pinocchio sets out on a journey and faces Krat's dangers in search of answers.
The most distinctive mechanic of Lies of P are the titular lies. Based on lies, the game procedurally generates tasks for Pinocchio to complete. They also affect the course of the plot, as well as the protagonist himself. The more Pinocchio lies, the more human he becomes, gradually losing the advantages of being a mechanical puppet.
While exploring Krat and completing quests we encounter numerous enemies, who we primarily engage in melee combat. As befitting a soulslike, the fast-paced encounters require agility, reflexes and perceptiveness; we must learn the enemies' patterns to find holes in their defenses.
We grow in power as we progress through the game. Being a puppet, Pinocchio can switch out his body parts for different ones to gain new abilities. Over time we also acquire better weapons and learn how to craft some of our own using gathered resources.
Lies of P features high-quality visuals. The detailed, dark locations are especially appealing.

Lies of P's greatest strength is how it rewards and empowers you at every turn to venture further through this twisted tale of puppetry and monstrous humanity, despite its oppressive world and formidable enemies. I struggled to pull myself away from Lies of P, even when it had me fuming. It delicately balances the fun of a Soulslike with the challenge the genre demands and only falters a few times. That it maintains that balance within the confines of a fairytale most know best because of Disney, flipping it on its head to tell something more in line with Carlo Collodi's original The Adventures of Pinocchio, is another achievement of Lies of P. But above all that, Lies of P uses the familiar, the highlights, and the lessons learned from the authors of the Soulslike subgenre to create something unique, fascinating, and exhilarating. Neowiz aimed for the stars, much like the ones its Pinocchio wishes upon, and hits them with machine-like accuracy.

Lies of P is a phenomenal reimagining of a classic tale that manages to engage the audience with its unique setting, while keeping them on the edge of their seat with its innovative twists to solid Souls-like combat. With minor shortcomings and perhaps an over-reliance on its inspiration, it is regardless an IP Souls fans won't want to miss out on, and is arguably one of the best Souls-likes titles to date.

Co-op like in other Soulslike games would have put Lies of P over the top, but even without it, the game will still greatly appeal to Soulslike fans. It has a lot going for it, and from a technical standpoint, it's basically perfect. It runs smooth as butter, looks fantastic, and has no glitches that we discovered. And while the writing can be clunky at times, the ending is legitimately wild and worth suffering through the worst bosses to reach. It's true that Lies of P gives in to some of the worst Soulslike instincts at times, but it can be extremely fun when the combat clicks. Just expect a significant time investment and a lot of frustration before that happens.
