New Deus Ex is set to scare publishers away. Despite its „charm and freshness,” the game is reportedly „too niche” to be worth the risk
The new Deus Ex (another after the cancellation of the previous project) apparently doesn't encourage publishers to work with the Eidos Montreal studio.

The Deus Ex brand fails to capture the interest of publishers, who consider the cult RPG series "too niche" to justify the risk.
Fans of Eidos Montreal studio had an exceptionally nasty April Fool's Day. At that time, mentioned "job cuts," which the well-known journalist associated with the cancellation of one of the studio's unannounced projects: a new Deus Ex.
Now, over a year later, Tom Henderson delivered more bad news. A reporter from Insider Gaming tried to find out more about the recent layoffs at Eidos Montreal. By the way, he came across a rumor that the developer was looking for a "partner" or publisher for the new Deus Ex, but without much success.
One of Henderson's sources allegedly claims that several of the surveyed companies consider Deus Ex to be "too niche." Another interviewee suggested that publishers are simply unwilling to take on the "financial risk" associated with investing in this brand.
The reluctance of companies may also stem from the fact that the new Deus Ex (which isn't the same project as the canceled DE from Schreier's article) is supposed to be "full of charm and innovation," but it falls short of the "standards and expectations usually associated" with this brand.
A lack of faith in such a cult series may be surprising—until we realize that its last "modern" version was released almost nine years ago and didn't break any sales records. Considering the current market situation and the publishers' hesitance to take risks, it's no wonder that no one is eager to invest in a project that would have to carry the legacy of a cult brand (meaning it would have to meet the high expectations of fans of the old Deus Ex games).
